LSK 1041 College Success I

In their first semester, Promise students enroll in College Success I, a one-hour credit class that focuses on college-level study assistance, career and life skills, and engagement in the university. As part of the course, students have one-on-one meetings with the Promise Ambassadors, Graduate Assistant, and Assistant Director for the Promise Program for individualized guidance and support.

LSK 1141 College Success II

Building on the foundation of LSK 1041 College Success I, College Success II continues to focus on student success in and out of the classroom. It includes information about healthy lifestyles, career advancement, and the application of study skills. Similar to College Success I, students have one-on-one meetings with the Promise Ambassadors, Graduate Assistant, and Assistant Director for the Promise Program for individualized guidance and support.

Events

Promise Jumpstart

Incoming Promise students start their incoming semester with Promise Jumpstart, a one-day event that prepares the students for the first day of class and helps students with immediate transition needs. The all-day event allows for students to build a sense of community, learn critical information about MSU, and gain confidence about their first days on campus.

Annual Welcome Social

The yearly fall Promise Welcome Social allows for both new and returning students to gather at the beginning of the semester. This opportunity helps welcome new freshmen and transfer students, and it provides an opportunity to hear advice from returning Promise students, as well as meet various campus representatives who assist Promise students.

Life after College Series

Open to all Promise students who want to gain transferable skills that will be beneficial to their career. The Life After College are experiential postgraduate and career-based programs that assist students in any of their futuristic goals after graduating from Mississippi State. With the assistance of The Career Center, the students learn about career opportunities, can have resumes reviewed, and gain advice about their presence on the job market. Some examples of these programs are Graduate School 101, networking in a professional social setting, career expo readiness, and relocation after graduation. They also hear information about Career Days, the two-day career, internship, and co-op fair.

Promise Graduation Recognition Ceremony

In the Fall and Spring terms, the Promise Student Support Program recognizes students who are graduating and students who have high academic achievements. In addition to recognizing students for their accomplishments, the ceremony also serves as a time to recognize university staff, faculty, and administrators who have assisted and advocated for Promise students.
